JOIN US:
The Shiatsu Summit will bring us together with renowned teachers and practitioners from around the world. We will come together to learn from each other as we explore the tradition and evolution of Shiatsu and its connection to other healing arts- honoring our lineage and core essential values.
Coming together will also allow us to network and communicate in informal settings - over a cup of tea, a meal, on a walk, or around a campfire under the stars, and this can help us to sense the energy of where we are headed. By celebrating and learning from our similarities and differences we will work toward finding unique paths for building a more vibrant Shiatsu Community to make an even stronger healing impact in our challenging world. We know shiatsu works and that we love shiatsu.
Let’s unify our voices and use our freedom, creativity, and inspiration to spread Shiatsu to more and more people throughout the US and the world.

Teachers’ Bios:
Kumiko Kanayama, Shiatsu Summit Coordinator
Kumiko Kanayama, founder of the Five Lights Center of Shiatsu and originator of the Global Shiatsu Weekly Gatherings, has been studying shiatsu for more than 30 years. Shiatsu has deep roots in her family’s tradition in Japan. She trained for many years with her uncle, Wataru Ohashi, a shiatsu pioneer in the West. This led her to develop her own style of practice, Intuitive Shiatsu™, which focuses on a deep sensitivity and awareness of Ki energy. Kumiko has taught courses and workshops in the US and Europe. Her Five Lights Center is an international gathering place where students, instructors and practitioners come together both virtually and in-person to share their knowledge and passion for shiatsu.
Wendy S. Bolognesi has been a passionate proponent of shiatsu since 1978. She studied at the Ohashi Institute, becoming a Certified Ohashiatsu® Instructor in 1992. Since then, Wendy has continuously taught, practiced and studied shiatsu along with its supporting theories, Chinese medicine and Asian bodywork. Wendy is both a graduate and a current faculty member of the Bancroft School of Massage Therapy. She teaches Asian Massage Techniques which focuses on shiatsu, acupressure and Thai massage. Wendy seeks to empower her clients to be proactive in their own healing, teaching them self-application acupressure techniques to address specific issues, including PTSD and addiction.
Lorelei Chang is a renowned modern dancer/choreographer, Qigong & Taijiquan teacher, and Chinese calligrapher. She has studied these disciplines for more than 40 years. She and her twin sister, Mai Nakanishi are world-class artists who pioneered Chinese calligraphy combined with Qigong with modern dance. They were the first modern pioneer dancers in China when modern dance was introduced in China in 1987. Lorelei has also won Gold and Silver Medals in Taiji Quan events at the International Wushu Competition. She is a professional member of the National Qigong Association. Lorelei studied Five Element Shiatsu with Nini Melvin and began her own shiatsu practice. She is a certified instructor of Daisy Lee’s Radiant Lotus Women's Qigong. Her passion for all Chinese art forms continues to inspire her students and audiences.
Nini Melvin
With more than 40 years of experience, Nini Melvin created a nature-based healing art, HUMANATURE, blending Shiatsu, Chinese Medicine, Qigong and Five Element meridian movement.
Nini has a Master’s Degree in Dance. She studied and taught shiatsu at the Ohashi Institute in New York City from 1981 to 1994. Nini's teachers include Wataru Ohashi, Pauline Sasaki, Kiiko Matsumoto, Pamela Ferguson, Ron de Koning, and Carola Beresford-Cooke.
Since 1985, Nini has trained shiatsu teachers and practitioners locally and internationally. Her studio, Meridians - Pathways to The Heart, is in Northampton, Massachusetts. She is an AOBTA Certified Instructor.
Nini created a book, HUMANATURE - Elemental Pathways to Personal and Planetary Healing, a Five Element Divination Deck and Charts, blending the Chinese and Japanese meridians extensions, and diagnostic areas and points.
Yoshi Nakano is a second generation Asian bodyworker, teacher, brush calligrapher and
artist who has been inspired by renowned teachers including: Thich Nhat Hanh, Dr. Vasant Lad, Ohashi, Mantak Chia, Takemori and Shinsuke (Yoshi’s father).
At the age of eleven, Yoshi began to practice anma, brush calligraphy, martial arts and
moxibustion. He studied and taught shiatsu at the Ohashi Institute, the Bateman Institute, and the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in New York. Yoshi served on the faculty of the Desert Institute of the Healing Arts, taught at Pima Community College and the University of Arizona and at Dr. Andrew Weil’s Center for Integrative Medicine.
Yoshi aided in the development of the Prajna Yoga Temple and taught the Art of Touch program. He trained bodyworkers at Ten Thousand Waves, a Japanese health spa in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Yoshi is the founder of MeisoTouch and the Zen Tribe Wellness Dojo in Tucson, AZ.
Drawing on more than three decades of experience and training in Eastern healing
modalities (shiatsu, healing tao, zen calligraphy and yoga), Yoshi‘s work transcends the borderlines within Asian healing traditions.
Patrizia Stefanini, graduated with honors in physics (1982) and specialized in medical physics (1985). Simultaneously, she began studying yoga, aikido and shiatsu. She first completed a Shiatsu training course in Italy, then she chose to continue her studies, first with Wataru Ohashi and later, for almost two decades, with Pauline Sasaki. In more recent years, she has used her studies in Physics, researching theories and experimental data to support the model of man that underlies shiatsu and, more generally, Eastern medicine. She has co-authored three fundamental texts on these areas, and dozens of articles on the same subjects, seen through the lens of modern Western science. Original aspects of her shiatsu approach embody the reading of man in terms of a quantum macro system.
